We thought it would be nice to share with you a series of great recording tips.
These tips are designed to be beyond the basics and aimed at helping anybody who has some recording experience quickly improve their recordings and productions quickly and efficiently.
Tip #1 – Less is More
With audio technology ever evolving and excellent recording equipment available to everybody there is a vast range of processing and editing techniques readily available at all times.
Of course, on the whole this is a fantastic thing, it allows audio to be processed and transformed in ways un-imaginable only a few years ago, and the processing that can be achieved can be invaluable.
However, having this vast amount of choice can often be detrimental to your recordings, leaving you with too many choices, too many routes to take and too many ingredients. The results can often become unfocused and loose their natural character.
Luckily it is easy to avoid this becoming a problem, and as soon as you, as a producer/engineer, are aware of the potential problem you will automatically start to record and mix in a much more streamlined way.
Remember to always listen hard to every processor you add to a signal chain, never just add processors for the sake of it, and if you are not 100% sure that the processor is improving the sound remove it. Try to make your decisions quickly, do not dwell on things too much, trust your natural instint and beleive what your ears are really hearing.
If you can bear these simple few principles in mind your recordings will improve quickly and massively.
